The Burt & Tana Hey Family
In 2005 God called our family to leave our home in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania to serve Him in full-time mission ministry. After raising financial support, we began a year of service at an Appalachian Mission in Kentucky. Near the end of that year, we were presented with the opportunity to join the staff at Joy of Living. This opportunity was interesting in the fact that it was at Joy of Living, while serving as a chaperon with our youth group on a work tour, that Burt began sensing God’s call to full-time service. After much prayer, we concluded that God was releasing us from our current ministry positions in Kentucky, and we pursued the opportunity at Joy of Living.
In May of 2006 Burt was hired as Facilities Director, and Tana and the kids were along for the ride. Over the course of that first summer, it became clear that Tana would be filling the role of Summer Camp Director for the next summer as the current Summer Camp Director was ready to step out of that role. So that first summer was much needed training for our family on the operations of camp ministry.
This May marks our 7th anniversary of serving at Joy of Living. Our son Jesse, age 13, has now lived here in Ohio longer than anywhere else. He has enjoyed growing up at camp and the privilege of playing in the wonderful creation that makes up Joy of Living. Our daughter Rosa, age 16, is a special needs child. Living at Joy of Living has been a huge asset in her life, especially the opportunity she has had to learn how to work with the horses.
Over these years we have seen God work in incredible ways, both in the ministry and in our family. It continues to be a humbling experience for us to serve at Joy of Living as missionaries. We have been extremely blessed by the many faithful individuals and churches that partner with us through financial support for our family. We continue to thank God for meeting our every need, and then some.
